NSW: Home detention for woman who pretended husband was dead
SYDNEY, Aug 10 AAP - A woman who spent five years pretending her husband had drowned
before admitting he faked his own death has been sentenced to five months home detention.
Sheila Gordon told police in August last year that her estranged husband, Harry Bentley
Gordon, had faked his own death when he disappeared in a June 2000 boating accident.
He was in fact alive and well, living in New Zealand under an assumed name and with a new wife.
Sheila Gordon pleaded guilty to her role in the attempted fraud that could have netted
$3.5 million from her husband's life insurance policy.
In Downing Centre Local Court today, Deputy Chief Magistrate Helen Syme sentenced Gordon
to five months home detention.
