FED: iPad's Australian debut delayed until late May
CANBERRA, April 15 AAP - US demand for Apple's iPad will result in its Australian debut
being delayed by a month.
It means those itching to get their hands on the gadget will now have to wait until
the end of May.
Apple spokeswoman Fiona Martin on Thursday said supply for Australia had been strained
by US demand.
"(Demand) will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as
more people see and touch an iPad," she said in a statement.
The touchscreen iPad - think giant iPhone that surfs the web, reads e-books, takes
photos and hosts applications - launched in the US earlier this month, selling 300,000
units the first day.
Apple has delivered almost double that number since, more than it anticipated, and
it still has US pre-orders to satisfy.
Apple will start taking online pre-orders in Australia from May 10, when the price
of the alternate wi-fi and 3G models will be revealed.
